Dancing Bears Book B:
ISBN 9781905174126
This level contains the same kinds of exercises as Dancing Bears Book A. Words with suffixes—ing, ly, ed, er, en—are taught, as are words ending in 'silent e'. Dyslexic pupils often have a lot of trouble with silent e words, so these get a lot of emphasis at this level. Soft c and soft g are introduced at the end of words (nice, page). Other new patterns include less-common digraphs (ur, aw, ue) and trigraphs (tch, dge), and three-letter consonent blands (str, spl). Ambiguous digraphs (ea, oo) are introduced along with a large range of irregular spelling patterns in the cloze sentences. Suffixes and prefixes(re, mis, un, de, pre, be, ex) cause few problems. Nor do longer words—our Word Builders have proved a tremendous success. Pupils not only lose their fear of long words, but reading them in the contest of sentences enables them to understand the meaning. The story of 'Froid the pet snail' continues in this book with longer episodes.
